A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF KUMASI EAST

Rotary Club of Kumasi East was first chartered in 1986 by the kind sponsorship of Rotary Club of Kumasi. The club was defunct for a number of years and was revive again by Rotary Club of Kumasi for the second time. This time the Club started as the Provisional Rotary Club of Kumasi East  and was Chartered finally on 9th February 1990 when professionals of various backgrounds businessmen came together to form the Provisional club and later was sponsored by Rotary Club of Kumasi into Rotary International with Huddonist Club, Ayigya as the first meeting place.

The list of distinguished members of the Provisional Rotary Club of Kumasi East included:

  1. W. Addo-Ashong - Chartered President
  2. Samuel Opare Larbi
  3. A. A. K Gbeckor-Kove
  4. J. W. Acheampong
  5. E. B. Hagan
  6. Prof Seth Opuni Asiamah
  7. Charles Robert Amoako among others.

The club has gone through several changes prominent among them include changes in the meeting venue and time, which has taken the club from Huddonist Club, Ayigya through to Senior Staff Club House KNUST to Royal Basin Hotel,  Ojampa Hotel, Sambra Hotel and to its current venue at Golden Tulip Kumasi City.  And the meeting time from afternoon, evening and back to lunch time.
